What to expect on a video set!

If you're about to be on a video set for the first time, it can be intimidating to think about what the experience will be like. At Social Focus Media, we aim to make sure you feel comfortable, relaxed, and confident on set.

BEFORE THE SHOOT DAY

Before the shoot day, your Creative Producer will send you all the production details for you to review and become familiar with. By now you should have had 1-2 meetings and a few notification messages to cover any final details.

ON SET

On the day of the shoot, you'll be guided by our production team consisting of a Creative Producer and videographer or photography team. The shoot will likely be divided into interviews and B-roll footage. During interviews, we'll use two to three cameras, lights, and a microphone to keep the conversation relaxed and conversational.

THE SHOOT SET-UP

Your Creative Producer will take care of leading everyone on set and running the shoot to keep things on schedule, while the videographer or photographer will take care of the visual aspects of the shoot.

Many of our shoots have two clear parts - interviews and the supporting visuals or 'B-roll'. For a video interview, we’ll set up two cameras on tripods and some lights and a microphone nearby. Our Creative Producer will conduct the interview, sitting beside the main camera.

INTERVIEWS

We’re often told how easy this process is when working with us. Our approach to interviews is to keep them as relaxed and authentic as possible. The best thing to remember is that it’s not live - stumbles and mistakes are all a part of the process. We leave it to our awesome editors to piece the interview together into an authentic and engaging narrative that will have you looking your best.

When capturing visual footage for your project, our creative team will guide you through each part of the process. If you or your team are on camera, we’ll direct you through these moments to ensure that they feel natural and that you feel comfortable.

If you're feeling nervous on camera, we have some tips on our blog for overcoming camera shyness, here:

ADDITIONAL FOOTAGE OR 'B-ROLL'

"For some video projects, we may include additional footage, also known as 'B-roll', to add more depth and context to the content. This may involve capturing candid moments of your team, customers, or environment. We will discuss and plan out the details of this footage during the pre-production process, so you'll be aware of what we'll be filming, who and what needs to be prepared, and when we'll be shooting these additional moments.

AN ENJOYABLE ON-SET EXPERIENCE

Creating a suitable environment on set is crucial to getting a great visual result for your project, and we take it very seriously. If you have any questions in the lead up to your project, please reach out to our producer!
