Pre Interview Nerves and How to Beat them!

5 Tips from a our Creative Producer to Overcome Pre-Interview Nerves

It's normal to feel a bit nervous before going on camera, but don't worry - the process isn't as scary as it may seem. Here are five tips from our creative producer on beating those pre-interview jitters and having a great time on camera.

  1. Remember that we are only asking about what you already know. Your interview is your chance to showcase your knowledge and expertise. We will ask you about your business, product, or history - things you already know a lot about. So there's no need to be nervous about what you'll be asked because you already have the answers. Think of it as an opportunity to share your wealth of knowledge with us and, in turn, with your audience.

  2. Focus on the camera. It can be intimidating to look into a camera or have one pointed at you, but try to remember that the camera is your friend, not your enemy. During the interview, it's just you, a few pieces of equipment, and a small production team. There's no audience or comment section to worry about. So focus on the camera, and the nerves will start to fade away.

  3. Dress to impress (in a comfortable way). Wearing something that you feel comfortable in can make a huge difference in how you feel on camera. Choose something that feels like you. And make sure to bring a backup outfit or two - you never know when you might spill coffee on your shirt or have an outfit that doesn't work with the lighting. Feeling comfortable in your own skin will help you relax and be more natural on camera.

  4. Practice with a friend or colleague. It can be helpful to practice being interviewed by a trusted friend or colleague. Let them throw some crazy questions at you! This will help you feel more comfortable and give you a chance to think about the story you want to tell. Just be sure not to practice too much - you don't want to sound too rehearsed or only be able to answer when the question is asked in a specific way. Asking your friends for two or three facts about yourself from their perspective can also be a great way to talk about yourself more easily in interviews.

  5. Trust the process. When you work with a video production company, you're working with a team of experts who know how to turn a series of questions into an engaging and compelling story. Remember that our interviews are meant to be candid conversations. You can laugh, make mistakes, and reword an answer. There's no pressure to be perfect or get everything right on the first try. Trust that the team around you knows what they're doing and wants you to do well, and you'll feel much calmer and at ease during the interview.
