Why Recruitment videos attract the best candidates & keep the worst at bay, saving you time.

A big part of job hunting for a potential candidate is research. And a recruitment video provides the information a candidate needs to know in one concise place. If done well, a recruitment video can communicate everything you want your ideal candidate to know and create a feeling of alignment with your business just after one impression. That’s powerful.

People love to envisage their lifestyle if they were to join your team. What does an average day look like? And what kinds of people will I be working with are all questions that people have on their minds when looking for their next step.

Without a recruitment video, potential candidates' only visual references are your highly edited website and social channels. And even if you have posted regular video content on those channels, it's likely to be a client or customer-facing content that hasn't been specifically designed to show a potential candidate what it’s like to work with your business.

We like to think of recruitment similarly to marketing and sales in your business: Who is my ideal candidate (are we core values aligned), what is my product (workplace, culture & job) that I am selling them, and from those key points what key message and tone are going to resonate with them most so that we can attract more of the candidates we want and less that we don’t.

The different kinds of recruitment videos:

Every business is different and has a brand voice and demographic of employees that they attract. What kind of videos and content does your ideal candidate usually consume? If you're attracting Gen Z candidates, a slow-mo corporate-style video probably won't appeal, whereas that might be perfect for a local law firm trying to attract Gen X professionals.

Team interviews

A great video concept is a sit-down interview session with various team members answering questions like 'what does a typical day look like at XYZ' or 'What opportunities for career growth have you experienced at XYZ’?

This can be shot in a relatively simple setup, usually achieved with a half or full day of on-site production, depending on the number of interviewees and location factors.

The interviews from this sit-down interview can act as the backbone to multiple pieces of content, and Whether you cut all of these interviews together or showcase each team member individually, team interviews are powerful for getting a concise perspective on the structure, experience, or departments of your business.

Team interviews can be conducted in a 2-hour or half-day session and, depending on your needs, can deliver 6 - 8 separate interviews or 1 master cut of the best answers combined.

Highlight montage

Think of a ‘week or day in the life of an XYZ employee'. Showcase as many aspects as possible to give an overview of what it would be like working at your organization. Include shots of the team on site, the office or WFH setup, the social events, meeting with clients, and anything that will communicate your vibe.

This can all be shot in a day or two with multiple staged setups. Cut b-roll footage with interviews from your team, and you'll have a holistic view of what it means to be a part of your business.

This can be achieved in a full day or multiple days, with this footage being a great tool to multipurpose down the track due to the diverse activities in your business that it shows.

The sketch comedy recruitment video

Don't be afraid to add some personality and a sense of humor to your recruitment video. Whether you're recreating an episode of The Office, showing your workplace from the office dog's POV, or creating an anti-recruitment 'here's why you shouldn't work here' video, comedy allows you to show off your personality and company culture in a lighthearted way.

It's important to say that comedy is hard to pull off, so it is best to hire professionals with experience in this genre, but with the right team, you can create something unique, entertaining, and memorable.

Social Focus Media does not specialize in the comedy genre. However, we are happy to point you in the right direction; just ask!

Staff-generated-content

Staff-submitted content is a simple way to feature your team and discuss your company. Professional editors can work wonders even with phone footage, so ask your team to film themselves answering the same question or prompt such as 'sum up the workplace in 1 word' or 'what does being an XYZ employee mean to you'’

This is a more relaxed style of recruitment video that can be cheaper to put together than a fully produced one.

The good news.

Your company culture, purpose, and mission don’t change frequently so a well-planned recruitment video can last you a few years. Depending on your video's tone and style, the footage shot on the day can be multi-purposed and edited into bite-size videos that can be used on social media channels, email marketing campaigns, and your website. These can be purchased now or further down the line when necessary.

For example, most recruitment videos will feature someone in your team talking about the business, the brand, and its mission. That answer could serve as a perfect brand awareness piece of content for client-facing purposes. If planned correctly, you'll get enough content to satisfy multiple departments.

A recent project (2022) with an ASX-listed client found them re-using our banked content over the course of 6 months to edit on top of newly captured audio. This reduced their cost and improved their output rate. The videos were recruitment, end of year celebration & internal educational explainers for the company.

How to get started.

You can meet with our team to discuss making a recruitment video for your company. We'll discuss the audience (your ideal candidates), your brand guidelines, core values, and the style of recruitment video you'd like to create.
